Willow Ptarmigan - state bird of Alaska

The Willow Ptarmigan, Lagopus lagopus, is a lovely bird that is built to withstand the cold winters in Alaska. Ptarmigan is related to the grouse and enjoys living in tundra environments. Their feathers, naturally, are white to blend in with that snow. They eat willow buds and twigs as well as berries and seeds.
